What is an F-pak

An F-pak is the smallest electronically identifiable packaging unit, and the natural smallest sales unit for the end customer.

It is clearly the manufacturer’s responsibility, in coordination with market forces, to define what constitutes their F-pak.

There are cases where the smallest sales unit is clearly identifiable, but various factors make it impossible to label the item with a GTIN number.
In such cases, the supplier must create a complete F-pak for the item but mark the packaging as not orderable from the supplier/alternative supplier.

If a retailer chooses to break down the smallest sales unit in-store, it becomes the retailer’s responsibility to manage this.
