What is a GTIN Number

A GTIN number (Global Trade Item Number) – formerly known as EAN-/UPC number – is a barcode number applied to packaging.
It identifies both the product and its unique packaging.

The use of barcodes is essential in stores and in modern picking and handling systems within companies.
It is crucial for streamlining goods receipt and using electronic packing slips.
All products in NOBB must have a GTIN number on all saleable packaging levels.
GTIN is a global numbering system that ensures unique identification of products and packaging.
A GTIN can contain up to 14 digits.

All packaging levels – F-pack, D-pack, and T-pack – must have unique GTIN numbers.

GTIN variants include:

GTIN-8   Used for small products (F-pack)

GTIN-12  Used in the USA and Canada (F-pack, D-pack, and T-pack)

GTIN-13  Used for F-pack, D-pack, T-pack, and orderable units. Recommended for use in the building materials industry
