1.8.4 Guidelines for Primary Text
General
The Primary Text must present the “name” of the product.
The text should be crafted to identify the product, attract attention, and create recognition. The Primary Text is used in many contexts, such as POS systems, ERP systems, shelf labels, invoices, handheld devices, costing systems, etc.
It is important that the text clearly indicates what the product is and is easy to understand. The Primary Text may contain a maximum of 35 characters.
This text must not be confused with the Module/Product Description, which provides a more detailed explanation of the product.
Rules
The text must clearly communicate what the product is and its most important characteristics.
The text must not exceed 35 characters.
The text must include the product type in Norwegian (noun). Example: PARKETT (parquet), DRENSRØR (drainpipe), VARMEPUMPE (heat pump), etc.
The text must start with the product type (in Norwegian), or alternatively with the brand or series name.
If the Primary Text starts with a brand name, it must match the brand registered on the module the product belongs to.
If it starts with a series name, the same series name must be registered in the "Series Name" field.
The text must be unique for the supplier’s products.
Only valid characters may be used.
The text must not begin with numbers or special characters.
The text will be automatically saved in uppercase letters.
Recommendations
The text should start with the product type in Norwegian (noun). This simplifies product search and comparison.
The text should be understandable even without any additional product information.
Avoid unnecessary commas, periods, and special characters. Use a period only within abbreviations, e.g., BEL.STEIN (paving stone). A period at the end of an abbreviation takes up space and is not recommended. A list of abbreviations is available in the example guide.
Use “x” for multiplication, not an asterisk. Example: 36x198
For products where it's relevant to include the number of units in a consumer pack (F-pak), this can be done using “A+number,” e.g., “A250”
Special products should include text indicating the type, such as SPS, SPESIAL (special), KUNDETILPASSET (customized), or similar.
Keep the text short and as simple as possible.
Be consistent. Use the same spelling and abbreviations where applicable.
The text should be designed to help identify the product and create attention and recognition across all customer groups.
