How to create good product descriptions for online stores

  • The text should be designed to identify the product, create attention and recognition. It should be usable as-is in an online store or similar.

  • The text should describe the product in a way that makes sense even if other product information disappears. ​

  • The content in the fields should be relevant and understandable for all potential target groups.

  • Suppliers should strive for a consistent presentation style across their product portfolio.

  • Digital channel text should not contain information that belongs in the fields Manufacturer, Corporate brand, and Brand name, unless excluding this would make the product description meaningless.

  • Uppercase and lowercase

  • If the product description belongs to a product consisting of several variants such as size or dimension, the product description should describe the product, not the individual variant.

  • The text should be combined with the dimension/size without repetition.

Rules:

  • Length in combination: Up to 60 characters

In addition to a good product description for digital channels, it is important to focus on the following:

Unique Selling points: Clearly communicate the unique benefits and features of your product. What makes it better or different than alternatives on the market?

Images and visual appeal: Use high-quality images that show the product in a consumer-friendly way. Visual appeal can have a significant impact on the customer’s decision-making process.

Clear and informative descriptions: Provide detailed descriptions of the product, including specifications, sizes, materials, etc. This helps customers make informed purchasing decisions.
